Wow did we ever have a great day today, because it was MEA and school was out I have scheduled events with organizations that work with kids with Autism for Maddie to keep busy for the next two days. Today was a theatrical workshop put on by adaptive park and recreation. She got to learn about the theatre and acting as well as production. 6 kids with all different skill levels worked together to put on a performance for the parents later in the day. They used props and costumes to perform a variety of musicals. Maddie started out by announcing “A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens” then she was the leading lady in Singing in The Rain. She was so proud of herself! The finale was a song from Joseph and the Techno colored Dream Coat. The kids were able to act and perform with out feeling like they didn’t fit in they all were beaming. We had to get autographs after the show.
I think acting is a very therapeutic outlet for autistic kids and adults. They can act a certain way to feel different. They have control. It was very cool to watch try getting your autistic/PDD kids into theater type classes everyone will benefit.
I’ll let you know what tomorrow is like not as exciting, a play date with another autistic kid.
