He's Not Verbal, But He's Talking

This past week Wyatt has used so much spontaneous language and bits of echolalia, that I finally feel hopeful that he's "getting" language.  I mean, getting the concept of communication and also developing spontaneous speech.  (Finally, at 4 yrs 9 mos.)  It used to be that when Wyatt wanted something he would tug at me, grunt, or scream.  I would almost always have to prompt him for a sound or word.  He still does all that, but among many other things, he also clearly says, "come" and does some very good approximations for "I want juice" and "I want go outside."  I have been amazed at how he's picked up the rythm of syllables.  Actually, he's even added an extra syllable to "want" so he can get the ending "t" sound.

Maybe having a boring break from therapies and school for a few weeks had something to do with these changes?  If I weren't so tired from Wyatt's erratic sleep patterns of late, I would do a little victory dance.  I hope he continues this language trend full speed ahead and doesn't regress.  That's what we all want, really.

Michael's speech changed

Michael's speech changed like that. It went from whines and babble to little words and then suddenly poof he was really adding more and more. I think once it clicked that he could use words like everybody else he wanted to try more. And that I got so excited when I could understand what he was saying.

WONDERFUL. Hey what

Oh, I don't think it has to

Oh, I don't think it has to do with that blood pressure medication. But, you never know! It's Tanoflex (generic). Good for Marcel! Wyatt rarely points to anything.
