I voted A - I hope my son

I voted A - I hope my son driving himself counts as family?

We have a special needs bus service here and the children are often in the vehicle just with the driver. I won't say that there haven't been any problems, there have been some incidents over the years; but I know the drivers are screen as carefully as possible and their trip times are also monitored. Nowadays, of course, they can even put GPS systems in the vehicles that allow them to be remotely monitored 24/7. If a driver stops for too long a time, I'm willing to bet that someone in the office would know about it. I imagine the taxi drivers are screened and the cars monitored with GPS. If not, perhaps some parents should get together and lobby for that.

Yep. Our driver has the GPS

Yep. Our driver has the GPS monitor and they track him very carefully. If he's not here on time he hears about it. He can't even park down the block to wait for us to emerge from the house or his company will call him up and want to know why he isn't within 200 feet of our house.

GOOD. Ya just cant be too

GOOD. Ya just cant be too careful now adays. I heard on the news last night that some sicko here in
town whose locked up used to drive school bus & had mollested over 200 children. I wish somebody
would just save the tax payers money and kill the son of a b*tch. Here's the link

BTW It doesnt mention he drove school bus on the link, I saw that part on yesterdays news.

I had jury duty in

Todd Fugere's picture

I had jury duty in Minneapolis a few years ago. It was a case about a bus driver who had molested two young boys on the bus, they were in first or second grade, very young. Man it was a heartbreaker, the kids actually got on the stand and pointed him out and told their story. It was brutal. I felt like jumping outta my seat and giving the guy some of my own justice. It was a two week case, we even got sequestered. It was all over the news here. We found him guilty and put his butt away. I never did hear how much time he got though. Hopefully lots, and hopefully he got his in prison.

I just got off the phone

Cindy's picture

I just got off the phone with my sister. She said they would have to be screened some how. Still Im afraid
I wouldnt do it. I'd blame on my age only uh I would have been this way if I had been a mom much earlier
in life. There's too damn many freaks out there. In any case I just think its an odd thing to do, besides
school buses are safer in a accident because of the high seats.

Uhg, I created this poll and

Uhg, I created this poll and forgot to add TAXI CAB, which is how my son gets to school, but technically that is a car driven by staff outsourced by the school district.

Wyatt takes a taxi?

Wyatt takes a taxi?

Yup. It's cheaper for the

WyattsMom's picture

Yup. It's cheaper for the school district to outsource the contracts to taxi companies. The cab who gets the contract has to have the booster or car seat ready in the trunk. I guess there are problems when the cabs have to cram three kids in a row in the backseat because then some of them hit and scratch each other. But it works out if there are just one or two kids.

But how can you be sure he's

Cindy's picture

But how can you be sure he's safe with the driver? Sorry Im just curious. I wouldnt trust somebody
like that.

The driver is the nicest man

WyattsMom's picture

The driver is the nicest man ever. We had one before this one who was also super nice. Some of the bus drivers have been kind of tense, though.

A funny story though...the first day the driver showed up he had a black Lincoln towncar and a scary looking supervisor with him. ALL the kids on the route that day took one look at the towncar and the supervisor and ran off down the street. Kids much prefer happy yellow buses or taxi's and friendly looking drivers.

We used to have a Lincoln

We used to have a Lincoln Towncar........ I REALLY miss it. It looked like a gangster car, electric
everything.

Okay maybe its me, maybe Im just paranoid but there's no friggin way I would ever let a Taxi
driver take my son anywhere unless an adult I trusted was in the car. Im not judging, Im just
saying. By the way I drove a school bus when I was 18, before I met my husband and at least
we had to take cpr. How in the hell is a taxi driver qualified to take special needs children anywhere??

I don't know, but they do

WyattsMom's picture

I don't know, but they do give them a training seminar. Well, I can say a lot of parents were surprised by the taxi thing. Maybe that was the school's plan all along, to give you an option that is easy to refuse. That saves the district lots of money if they can get you to take your kid to school using your time, vehicle, and gas.

I smell a rat. My sister is

Cindy's picture

I smell a rat. My sister is off right now after a huge car accident but shes a teacher. While we were
still living in California there was a big stink over misusing funds for bottled water. She works for
LA School district. Well my husband installed a reverse osmosis in their elementary school for free.
He rebuilt the system, didnt cost the school a penny. My sister said they were so grateful that he
had done it that the teachers started crying. The school is somewhere in Monrovia, money is tight
and the drinking water was crappy. Now they can take bottles of r/o water to their classrooms for
the students. My husband even taught my sister how to replace the filters to save the school money.

This is what Im worried about, a car accident and no second adult to assist where as in a bus
you'd have two adults for special needs and gees molestation. Who knows what kind of background
these drivers have?
