Ideas for AB

I have strange ideas for things, I know. I like to pretend that I am a writer, it is a dream of my own for being published some day. I write for two sites but have not submitted more than poetry of late. Actually not even that lately. *smacks own hand* I have thought about writing up a few articles about my ASD experience. Surprisingly there are not as many entries in that section as I had thought, so if I really pour my heart into it, there are few reasons I cannot earn a few cents (or possibly more) a month on the articles. (I can give anybody who wants more information about writing for the site in a private message) Last night I was flipping through American Baby (for some reason I have a free subscription because I am "pregnant"m no clue how that happened) and realized that they rarely talk about the things that could go wrong with our babies. I have never seen an article on ASD or even Down Syndrome. I realize they do not want to scare young parents ect, but statistics are going up. Magazines need to start thinking about single, younger, and special needs parents in parts of their articles.

Yes that ramble has a point. Reading the newbie blog of a new member I had another strange thought. And this one I am not pushing much at the moment it is more of a pipe dream. What if we compliled testimonies of the "Auti-Mom" (& Dad) into a book. Since no two ASD children are the same. It would be like a normal variety population version of Jenny's book. Since that is harder to accomplish, it made me think smaller scale. Yes it has been a morning of power thoughts. And since we slept way in, it has been a hour of thoughts. And more keep coming even as I write this.

So Idea One. What if we could create a testimony section on AB? Have it available for the active members to post their story in. One story each. Since we are really not sure what the points are for, but know how they are earned, lets put a cap on the points, you have to be active enough and when you earn x# you can post a testimony. Not all of us are active bloggers, but post comments and such like a dedicated user, so that is why I say by points rather than blog entries. Then we have a page that new users, or even us established users can look at and read our stories. It would also help us when we are commenting on eachother, knowing the other's back-story.Of course the testimony would have to be 90% about our ASD experience, but it is impossible to not let part of who we are behind the ASD mask to shine though.

Actually I think I will stop with Idea One, until I have more information to think about Idea Two. It would be less member orientated as rather something for the site itself. But I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions for my idea. It cannot be perfected or a possible reality with out complete thought and enthusiam from you all.

I love new ideas for the

I love new ideas for the site! I'm trying to make this as useful to people as possible, so keep the ideas coming!!

Right now, in everyone's profile there is a "Reason for Joining" box, which I had hoped people would use to share why they are here, testimony, etc. To get there go to My Account (upper right hand corner), Edit, and Personal Information. I can also add other stuff to this page, if you think there should be something else here, let me know and I can add new fields as needed.

I could also create a content type, like a blog entry, and call it testomony and have a page that displays everyones testimony. The sky is the limit with this site. I just need ideas and what you guys think will be useful. It's a work in progress. :)

Points don't really mean much right now, other than to let you know who's posting the most, etc. Someday, I hope to have something in place for this point system, but have yet to figure anything out.

I monitor the site every day and read all comments, so as I see ideas I will try to implement them. Also, feel free to contact me using the contact tab at the top with any ideas. Or you can private message me if you'd like as well.

I like the idea of about the

I like the idea of about the testimony under the content. I know it would be easier being able to read everybody's back-story. And I am really putting some odd thoughts into a book compiled of several families stories...

I love those "power thought"

I love those "power thought" mornings! I think that is a wonderful idea, having an area of the website that gives us a larger allotment for our profiles, basically, but would also function as a sort of gallery. Each ASD family could have a "page" with a space for a story and at least one photo/graphic. Maybe we could include some standardized information that people could click on a button for. Such as... how old your child was when diagnosed, etc. We'd have to put more thought into the standardized info.

Have you heard of Medigenesis? I should post about that in the forum. It's an extensive medical questionnaire for a giant autism database in hopes of finding some common links of possible triggers of autism--at least that is my understanding. I joined it but never got around to inputing my info.

Anyway, speaking of brand-new parents, it looks like there might be a pattern on the website. It seems to me that parents of ASD kids who are 4 years to adults are more likely to be emotionally at a place where they are ready to interactively blog. It seems that parents of children younger than age 4 tend to leave anguished messages and are too wounded and/or overwhelmed respond. I mean, you and I are newbies to the blog but we're all into it. We have had a year or two of living through this and now we're here.

It has been a year since I

It has been a year since I first brought up my concerns to the family doctor. August will be One year since we got started at the Specialty Clinic. Yeah it took that long to get in. My baby turns four really soon. I just cannot help but think of who I will be in another year. This last year has taught me so much.

I have never heard of that... I joined the IAN project and I get so overwhelmed and tired of putting all the information on things. I find the same thing on profiles and evaluations I have to fill out on Michael.

I hope some more power thoughts come to me but it is almost 1AM so time to be powering down.
