OR TREATS

WyattsMom's picture

What do you do to pamper yourselves after a grueling day? Cookies, 10 minutes for a hot shower (when you can barely make time for one of these they become a luxury), a good book, a favorite show, a new top (even if it was only $3), a certain beverage, a chat with a friend, or my favorite...SLEEP, the ultimate luxury.

Oh I like to download massage music (Reiki is good) and burn it on to a cd. The music is calming to Marcel
and to mommy. I guess this is a trick and a treat lol.

I went to a wonderfully relaxing ladies' night out with two new autism mom friends. Between us all, we drank five glasses of very good wine and downed a very foofy appetizer. They treated me and wouldn't let me pay at all, on account of my troubles being the worst at the table that night.

Hmmm.... 20 minutes for a bubble bath.... sitting out on the front step drinking a cup of tea on a nice summer night (a decidedly seasonal activity up here - lol)... when my son brings me a cup a tea on his own (yep, that one's the ultimate).

Don't have time to clean my

WyattsMom's picture

Don't have time to clean my tub often enough to cotton to the idea of soaking all my parts in it (showering is OK though), and just this morning I gave the dog her first bath since May in it--so definitely showers for me until I can get in that tub with some Comet.

But I do live for the day my son will bring me a cup of tea. I was about 4 when I did that for my Mom for the first time, one day when my Mom wasn't feeling well (when I was all grown up she told me she'd had a miscarriage that day). Actually I think I was going for hot chocolate with a spring of mint. Only we didn't have any mint so I floated a piece of lettuce on the top.

I kind of do it by killing

Perseverence's picture

I kind of do it by killing two birds with one stone. I've always stripped naked to clean the shower stall anyway, since I always seem to get wet (lol). So I do the tub too, since I'm standing in it. It's an acrylic tub, so Comet is a definite no-no. Then I give everything a rinse, grab the bubble bath, plug the drain and just sit down. Aaahhh! Our dog won't go in the tub, so we have to take her to a "doggie wash." It's just like a coin car wash, but they have a ramp up to the "tub." Other benefits - we don't have to bend over, they have the temp and everything all regulated, and we don't have to clean up the hair (you just pay an extra dollar or two to have the staff clean up after you). Oh, they also have a coin dog dryer (imperative during the winter months).

Yeah, I have to take it easy

WyattsMom's picture

Yeah, I have to take it easy with the Comet. I love it so.

My husband is so adamant that we not bathe the dog very often because he doesn't want to irritate her precious doggie skin. So once a year I have the dog professionally bathed, shaved, the works. So other than that once a year special, she has only gotten a bath VERY rarely either in the tub or in a kiddie pool that I have. (But we do take her to the beach pretty often where she goes swimming). Reasons for baths include tick sightings and skunk encounters. We do have a couple of self serve dog wash facilities nearby though if I could convince my husband that it isn't the Middle Ages and that bathing is healthy.

Dog show people bath their

Perseverence's picture

Dog show people bath their dogs all the time, and those dogs have to have clear skin and great coats. I know they do use conditioners, etc., but I think it shows that frequent bathing can be done without harming the dog. We bath our dog (lab/greyhound cross) about once a month (otherwise she starts to smell too "doggie") That was what was recommended in the literature the shelter provided with her. I imagine the frequent swims really help to keep your dog clean, so frequent baths wouldn't really be necessary. Our dog runs away whenever she's taken off her leash (the part greyhound in her), so it's pretty hard to taken her swimming anywhere (although the lab part in her would probably love it).

Those were my requirements, too. Plus I wanted one that didn't bark a lot or jump on people. But then when I got to the pound I realized I had a thing for fluffiness. My husband also fits into this category of excessive hairiness, all except for his actual hairline.

Hey, we balding and hairy husbands resemble that sort of remark! ;)

Relaxing. I watch lots and lots of TV and DVD's while doing chores. Every now and then, I actually make time to take a walk.
